Baruntse 7129m is in the eastern part of Nepal. Situated close to Mt Makalu inside Makalu Barun National Park. It is remote and at the center of three glacier valleys, the Imja, the Hunku and Barun.
Baruntse Peak is considered one of the most challenging and rewarding climbing destinations in the world. At over 7,000 meters above sea level, it is a true test of both physical strength and technical skill. However, thanks to modern climbing equipment and techniques, as well as extensive safety precautions on the part of experienced climbers, Baruntse peak is accessible to a wide variety of adventurers.
The mountain was first climbed May 30, 1954, via the south ridge by Colin Todd and Geoff Harrow of a New Zealand expedition led by Sir Edmund Hillary. The first ascent of the East Ridge was made on April 27, 1980, by Lorenzo Ortas, Javier Escartin, Jeronimo Lopez (all Spain) and Carlos Buhler (America) of a Spanish expedition led by Juan Jose Diaz Ibanez.
Asian Hiking team set up our base camp at 5300 meters where our expedition cooks prepare all the necessary substantial meals. Our experienced climbing guides set up higher camps at 6400 and 6800 meters. We fix ropes to make the summit push safe and secure. We have medically trained guides with a wide-ranging medical kit, Oxygen cylinder, a Portable Altitude Chamber, satellite phone, and walkie-talkie as a safety back-up throughout the duration of our Baruntse expedition. Our base camp trekking recommended itinerary flight to Lukla to cross the Zetra-la pass continues trek to Khare. We take a one-day rest in Khare then climb the Mera peak 6470m and trek to Baruntse base camp.
