Dhaulagiri is the seventh-highest peak in the world, and sixth-highest mountain in Nepal at 8,167 meters (26,795 ft) above sea level, and the highest mountain within the borders of a single country in Nepal.
It was first climbed on 13 May 1960 by a Swiss/Austrian/Nepali expedition. Most ascents have followed the northeast ridge route of the first ascent, but climbs have been made from most directions. As of 2018 there had been 537 successful ascents.
At over 8,000 meters tall, Mount Dhaulagiri poses unique challenges for climbers. Its rugged terrain includes tough alpine conditions such as glaciers, snow fields, avalanche-prone slopes, steep ridges and exposed ice walls. The high altitude can also be a major obstacle to overcome, with risk of extreme weather conditions that can rapidly deteriorate with little warning. Despite these challenges, we are confident that with extensive training and preparation in advance as well as strong teamwork and perseverance during the actual climb, we can succeed in reaching Mount Dhaulagiri's summit and bringing home valuable lessons about this incredible place.
Asian Hiking team recommend itinerary: Drive from Pokhara to Beni Bazar, continued to Dharapani. Then, we trek to Italian base camp contuse to Dhaulagiri base Camp. The base camp is normally set at around 4,750m, and then three camps follow before reaching the top. The first camp is at 5,850m, camp 2 is at 6400m, and the last camp is at 7400m.
