Manaslu is the eighth-highest mountain in the world at 8,163 meters (26,781 ft) above sea level. It is in the Mansiri Himal, part of the Nepalese Himalayas, in the west-central part of Nepal.
The name Manaslu means "mountain of the spirit" and is derived from the Sanskrit word manasa, meaning "intellect" or "soul". Manaslu was first climbed on May 9, 1956, by Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu, members of a Japanese expedition.
The Manaslu Conservation Area, declared as such in December 1998 under the National Parks and Wild Life Conservation Act, subsumes Manaslu within it. The area covered under the conservation zone is 1,663 square kilometres (642 sq mi) and is managed by the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) of Nepal.
Asian Hiking Team recommend itinerary start trekking from Sotikhola all the way to Jagat continues to Deng – Namrung – Lho than reach to Samagau.
From Samagau head up to Manaslu Base Camp at 4750m. On the Manaslu Glacier, we carefully follow the bamboo marker wands and use fixed ropes to cross the serious crevasses and dangerous sections.
Asian Hiking Team made Manaslu Expedition Camp I at 5700 meters at the bottom of the North Peak right above the glacier on a protected area. Expedition Camp II is located in the safe section of the climb in a relatively flat area at 6400 meters, although while at this campsite there can be a lot of snow accumulation. Climb from Camp II to Camp III is one of the shortest days and only takes around 3 hours. We make our Camp III at the elevation of 6800 meters just below the col to avoid the very strong winds so we ensure that all our tents are anchored properly. The route continues up the remaining glacier climbing steep sections of snow and ice with safety towards Camp IV at 7400 meters, which is the last camp on our Manaslu expedition. Finally, we have to traverse past, sadly exposed remnants of former expeditions smashed tents and dumped garbage to reach the Summit, a tiring day involving a 6 to 8 hours climb.
